Refugee Artist Development Program
The Refugee Artist Development Program supports newly arrived creatives from refugee backgrounds to navigate the creative industries. The program focuses on development of new work, mentorship, employment and/or education pathways in the arts. Led by highly experienced Creative Producer, Andrea Lim, the program provides bespoke mentorship and support to the artists based on their individual needs and desired pathways. We take a long term process-based approach to this work.
In 2023, the mentoring model proved successful in deeper pathways to employment for the participants. The specialised mentoring approach, saw that participants were successful in attaining opportunities and employment beyond the program with external arts organisations in the sector. This included residencies, exhibitions and independent projects in addition to social enterprise projects with CuriousWorks.
One of the major exhibition opportunities was Settlement Services International’s Homelands Tour (see below). Also, in late 2023, CuriousWorks was able to secure another partnership for the development and presentation of outcomes through SSI’s New Beginnings Festival, enabling us to support 3 artists, Leila Beigli, Ali Rezvani and Khishkok Abdo to develop additional work in late 2023 for presentation in 2024.
