LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU GET HOME

National Theatre of Parramatta

After years of steady development, Let Me Know When You Get Home, a queer, coming of age Western Sydney play, written by Miranda Aguilar and directed by Valerie Berry, had its world premiere at Riverside’s National Theatre of Parramatta in March 2021.

Part of NToP’s LAUNCHPAD, this short, sharp, joyful season was almost SOLD OUT and a huge success, with positive and supportive reviews from audience members and the media alike.

“Its miraculously happy ending might make the curmudgeons among us roll their eyes but I, for one, was cheering.”  — Harriet Cunningham wrote for the SMH
The most important reviews, however, came from the work’s main target audience – young, queer people from Western Sydney. The response after every show was teary, grateful and joyful. “As a young queer person who grew up in Western Sydney, watching this truly felt like experiencing key moments in my own journey with the benefit of hindsight.” Young person from Blacktown’s AllOut.

An important feature of Let Me Know When You Get Home’s premiere was its targeted audience engagement strategy. In keeping with the core themes of the work, the engagement strategy focused on making sure the show was as accessible as possible to young, LGBTQI+ Westies. We successfully ran a ‘Donate a Theater Ticket’ campaign, enabling us to send 25 young people to the theatre for the first time, and in partnership with the fantastic team at Riverside, we were able to offer discounted tickets to young people from CALD and First Nations backgrounds, low income households, and/or LGBTQI+ in Western Sydney.
