Homelands Showcase
The Homelands Showcase was a generative collaboration with our presentation partner, Settlement Services International (SSI). Homelands toured to Brisbane, Gold Coast, Coffs Harbour and Newcastle between 20 - 23 June, 2023.
Our strengths as a company are in providing ongoing, long-running development support to artists in the form of commissioning new work, helping them to carve career pathways, and increasing access and participation in the arts. Our partnership with SSI is complementary, symbiotic and generative, with SSI providing a highly visible platform to showcase the work of artists, affording them the opportunity to connect with new and bigger audiences, to gain confidence and new skills in presenting their work to the public and to pursue new opportunities and a deeper sense of belonging in their new homeland.
From our Refugee Artist Development Program, artists Ali Rezvani, Adeeb Razzouk and Smitha Peter were able to showcase their work. From the Stories of Welcome program, CuriousWorks presented a collective exhibition of short films, photography and digital and visual artworks created by participants: John Cham, Zozik Abdo, Khishkok Abdo, Khairya Al-Khameri, Eve Aye Win, Nin Ngling Maung (Angelo), Basam Shamsan, and Sonya Ido. The works all tell a story of the artists’ experiences of being welcomed into their new communities.
In addition to showcasing their work, Ali Rezvani, Adeeb Razzouk, John Cham, Zozik Abdo and Khishkok Abdo were able to travel through different legs of the tour and participate in panel discussions and conversations speaking to the works they created and meeting new audiences along the way.
