HANDLE WITH CARE

an experimental storytelling project

Handle With Care is a collective zine written around the themes of healing, thriving and collective power. It was created through a facilitated workshop process that was developed through CuriousWorks’ Writers Development Program.

Over 2021, emerging artists would explore the zine’s themes through different forms of writing and art-making, and the resulting pieces were collected and curated to form Handle With Care. CuriousWorks Writers Development Program was facilitated by Miranda Aguilar, with co-facilitation and mentorship from Andrea Lim.

There were eleven different emerging artists who joined the workshop program and submitted pieces to the zine. Although the workshops were not originally planned for online facilitation, they became an important way for participants to stay connected through lockdown. Via Zoom, Google Jamboards and a number of screen breaks, participants were still able to gather together. Through the ambiguous grief of stay-at-home orders, Handle With Care became a monthly outlet for creativity and connection. We couldn’t meet up but we could still make art together. Healing, thriving and collective power were all still possible.

Handle With Care is at the final stages of design and printing and will be shared as part of the GEN2168 Festival Program in April 2022.

Handle With Care was facilitated and edited by Miranda Aguilar and designed by Huy Nguyen.
