GENERATE 2168

at Miller, Liverpool
GENerate 2168 concentrates our work in an important community – the eight suburbs of 2168, Liverpool – with whom we’ve been working for the past decade through our ReFill Arts-in-Education program. GENerate 2168 is a five-year, flexible, multi-arts ‘place-making’ platform and program with young people from Miller, involving local artists, international artists and community in vibrant dialogue and exchange.

This multifaceted long-term grassroots program is finally taking shape under the careful visioning of Andrea Lim. This year we were planning to run a series of creative workshops, culminating in a mini arts festival in Miller in November. COVID unfortunately interrupted our timeline and the first GEN2168 Festival is now scheduled for April 2022.

Instead, 2021 focused on partnership and program development, as well as the professional development of the Curious Creators who will be leading the program in the community next year. These emerging artists undertook a series of five masterclasses in preparation for the year ahead with guest speakers including Hannah Lai and Isabella Antoniou from Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network (MYAN), Tian Zhang, co-founder of Parramatta Artist-Run Initiative (PARI), our MC Chair, Tiffany Lee-Shoy, and acclaimed documentary filmmaker, Maya Newell.

GENerate 2168 is at the heart of CuriousWorks’ new strategic plan and we are proudly working with the local community, Liverpool City Council and grassroots agencies - CORE Community Services, Mission Australia, Hume Housing, Liverpool Neighbourhood Connections and Miller Technology High School. We hope that together we can develop an out-of-school hours creative hub and mini arts festival that is driven by the designs and desires of young people, for young people.

The GENerate 2168 program is funded by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, and the NSW Government through Create NSW.
