Gen2168: Youth Arts Festival

A creative place-making program for young creative dreamers and changemakers of Miller

Miller Youth Hub, 7 March—23 April 2022
Since 2008, CuriousWorks have been working with the young people of Miller Technology High School through the ReFILL in Arts program. GEN2168 builds upon the years of ideas and conversations had with young people, community workers and emerging artists living, studying and working in Miller and unleashes them into the public space.

This 2 month-long arts and community festival fosters the creativity and imagination of young people through socially-engaged creative workshops, live performances, interactive art exhibits and community gatherings. This year's activities included three x free six-week workshops offered to local young people: Slam Poetry and Spoken Word, Filmmaking & Digital Media and Movement & Storytelling. Outcomes from these workshops were then celebrated in a showcase mini festival event at the Miller Youth Hub - a full day of creative exploration, workshops, reading and presentations by young participants. We also held a Youth Movie Night at the Michael Wenden Aquatic Centre.

“I think it’s pretty important to have these sorts of things/programs to run for kids, Especially in Miller, not many children or kids my age have the opportunity to do these sorts of things. It’s been a pretty fun experience coming in every Monday and just sparking creative ideas, sparking new questions that inspire new ideas. Yeah it’s been fun to express new ideas, talk about subjects that are not really discussed in schools which is refreshing and nice”
