FUNPARK

at Bidwill, Mt Druitt
FUNPARK had another huge year!!

Led by Daisy Montalvo - original FUNPARK participant and now Project Director, FUNPARK delivered a full program of activities, despite the extended COVID-19 lockdown. This included a term of Creative Claymation workshops with young people at Learning Ground, a First Nations focused Mount Druitt Press Conference (and preceding workshops) held at the Museum of Contemporary Art in June, a Pacifika Youth focused Mount Druitt Press Conference (and preceding workshops) live-streamed to audiences in September, as well as preparing for what will be an incredible FUNPARK Festival, originally scheduled for September, postponed again in January and now happening in March 2022. We have certainly learnt that flexibility and patience are key to surviving (and thriving) in yet another disruptive ‘pandemic’ year!

FUNPARK is a youth-led arts and cultural program that celebrates the community and lived experiences of young people growing up in the Mount Druitt region. This year we welcomed Sivani Yaddanapudi to the team, who drove FUNPARK’s social media platforms and project documentation. The team also included Sandra May, who facilitated the claymation workshops and Robyn Hardge-Scott, who continued the community engagement work.

Watch Sivani’s short documentary Bidwill’s FUNPARK, which shares the history and impact behind this inspiring grassroots creative movement, empowering young people in Mt Druitt.
