CELEBRATIONS
Two of CuriousWorks’ emerging leaders hit some pretty high goalposts over 2021 and we are super proud to have played a part in building their creative pathways and nurturing their professional development.
Miranda Aguilar first connected with CuriousWorks way back in 2014 on the set of our feature film, Riz. They began co-facilitating our Writers Group in 2016 and played a key role in the creative development and production of several works that emerged from the group, including Las Rosas and Prone to the Drone. In 2019, Miranda started working part-time with CuriousWorks as the Communications Officer and in 2021 began transitioning into a lead creative role in the company, working alongside our Creative Director in artistic programming, facilitation and mentorship. In 2020, Miranda also joined the CuriousWorks Management Committee, playing an integral role in the management and leadership of CuriousWorks.
Throughout this time, Miranda has been working on their first full-length play, a coming-of-age story about growing up queer in Western Sydney. Let Me Know When You Get Home finally hit the stage in March 2021 to sell-out audiences. Miranda has steadily been building a career as an emerging writer and creative leader, with multiple opportunities and projects on the boil at any given time. They are an inspiration for other emerging artists and we are thankful for all they bring to the company.
Read Kap Mag’s interview with Miranda, where they share their thoughts on writing trans-migratory identities with integrity, how ‘Filipino-ness’ transcends stereotypes, and not playing games with white institutions.

Daisy Montalvo likewise has taken to a leadership role as FUNPARK Festival Director, like a duck to water. Daisy was first involved in FUNPARK as a participant in 2014 and later connected with CuriousWorks as an assistant facilitator of FUNPARK workshops in 2016. She was part of the team behind the script development of CuriousWorks’ telenovela inspired web-series, Las Rosas, which she then directed in 2018. Since 2019, Daisy has been in the role of Artist-in-Residence on FUNPARK, designing and producing FUNPARK and Mt Druitt Press Conferences and creating fantastic opportunities for young people in Bidwill and surrounding areas. Daisy was awarded Chiefley Young Woman of the Year in 2019 and in 2021 she was accepted into the Australia Council for the Arts’ prestigious Future Leaders Program. Her short film, El Baile formed part of the Homelands Tour this year and her work as FUNPARK Festival Director has exemplified her exceptional leadership skills.
Well done Daisy and Miranda!
