CEO REPORT
I write this in my final weeks in my role as CEO of CuriousWorks and looking back, I am incredibly proud and amazed at all that we have achieved this year. The team have worked above and beyond to deliver a suite of incredible programs, festivals and events, including FUNPARK, GEN2168 and ReFILL, the gallery presentation of meet me at the next stop and Urban Stories at Blacktown Arts and the production of our beautiful zine work Handle with Care. And on top of all this we successfully piloted two new artist mentorship programs - Testing Grounds and the Refugee Artist Development Program.
After two years of disruption and delays, in 2022 we were finally able to deliver a range of programs that were on hold and re-engage with our grassroots communities face to face. We were excited to be back in the classroom and back on the tools, with our social enterprise business having its best year since 2018. Over the year, the team has accomplished a great deal and, like the rest of the sector, we are all looking forward to the summer break and a quieter start to the new year in 2023, as we transition to a new CEO and leadership.
I would like to thank my fabulous staff team for all their hard work, dedication and creativity over 2022. I would also like to acknowledge and thank the communities we work with and all of the artists, partners and funders who have supported and been involved in the various programs and projects over the year. And finally I would like to thank CuriousWorks’ Committee of Management for their guidance, dedication and support, both this year and as CuriousWorks transitions into an exciting new era in 2023.
Thank you again and bon voyage! It has been an amazing 10 year journey and I have learnt so much. I look forward to watching this beautiful company from further afield and hope that the seeds that have been planted will continue to thrive and grow and a new diverse leadership of Western Sydney artists will make their mark on the creative industries in this country and beyond.
